Christmas is one of the best times of the year, lots of food, fun and gifts. The only downside to this time of year is that it’s one of the most damaging times for the environment. Because of the absolutely mad amount of food and gifts we buy every year, a massive amount of rubbish is gathered. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about the big rubbish makers, but, making changes to little things during Christmas can all make a difference to the environment.

All the little things can really make a difference, whether you choose to buyeco gifts rather than ones that are damaging to the environment. However, this can be a bit difficult unless your buyingkitchen accessories orbathroom storage, which tend to not make good presents. Or maybe you opt for something easier like buying recycled wrapping paper.

One big waster each Christmas is the common cracker. Although they are great fun for the 30 seconds you are using them, they are a massive waste. When you actually think about it, they are no good at all for the environment. The entire thing is made from paper and cardboard which is all thrown straight in the bin after the day. As for the insides, which normally consists of a plastic item which just gets thrown away after 10 minutes.

Fortunately, if you find a free hour or two, you can make your own crackers. Although there are many retailers that now sell eco-friendly crackers, why not go all the way and make your own. Another advantage is that you can put your own prizes in, no more cheap plastic dice.

Don’t be turned off by the idea of making your own crackers, it’s very easy. The majority of the equipment needed you’ll find around your home. Take the cardboard inner shell, it’s the most simple of items to get, just use empty toilet rolls. The only thing you would have to buy from a shop would be the snappers, unless you want noiseless crackers.

There are many guides you can find on the internet that help you make your own crackers. If only everyone did some of these little things each Christmas, the environment wouldn’t suffer so much each Christmas.
